Doran Beach

I said something in a previous post about buying a book called "The Dog Lover's Companion to California."  I want to explore the area where I live but (know it sounds stupid, it's probably because Kenai is really my only "friend" at this point) I feel bad going out for too long while Kenai's locked up in a kennel in the apartment all day.  Plus, it's nice not to explore by myself...even if my partner is only an annoying mutt.

Soooo - anyway, I decided to check out one of the beaches that allows dogs...Doran Beach.  It's just south of a nice little costal town called Bodega Bay.

The nice thing about this place vs others I've been to is that it's an "on leash" beach.  What I hate about off leash places is that your dog is only supposed to be off leash if they're under voice control (hence why my crazy always stays on his leash at this point)...of course most people actually do not have that much control over their dogs.  Of course about half the pepole with dogs here didn't have their dogs on leashes (annoying) BUT I will say that most of these dogs actually were under voice control by their owners...which was a nice change.

Notice the beach is empty...that's because it was about 40 degrees out...a little chilly...but it was beautiful...and I'm not complaining about the fact that I can go to a beach in late February...regardless of how cool it is.  Okay, yes...this part basically looks like the beach I went to a few weeks ago...sand and water...but there was an awesome little discovery.

There was a little path (I like to call it a "secret cave") to a not so sandy part of the beach.

On one end of the beach it gets all rocky like this.  And there's a small tide pool.  This made for a HAPPY PUPPY.

Before when we went to the beach, he was scared of the water...noooot this time!

So, not a super exciting post, I know.  But it was a good time for both of us.  And it was needed after a loooong week at work.
