29 April, 2011

Just wanted to clarify from the previous post that when I say things like senior dosimetrist all of these terms are unofficial.  All it means is that I will have been there longer than whomever we hire....a whole half a year.  Yeah!  Respect my authoritah!  It'll mean I have seniority and that's about it.  I'm hoping we hire someone with more experience than myself and someone I can learn from.

While this decision is up to several people I'm the one who will have the most say and I'm the one who will be affected the most by this, obviously.  I have to spend a lot of time in the same room as this person.  I haven't even seen one resume and I'm already freaking myself out over this.

What if I pick a total douche bag?
And they make my life a living hell?
I don't want to leave already...I'm still getting settled here.

...aaaand now you know what it's like to be inside my head right now and for the next couple months.

In Kenai related news:
I finally broke down and bought him some bully sticks.  And, boy does he love him some bull penis! (yes, that's what bully sticks are).  As gross as that is, if it keeps him busy and he's not destroying my stuff, he can chew on whatever part of the cow he wants!

I just watched this week's episode of The Office.  Steve Carrell's last episode.  Stupid show.  Comedies aren't supposed to make you cry!

Movin' on up

So, I just found out today that the other dosimetrist is leaving the clinic I work.  He's moving to be closer to his family.  Makes sense, he and his wife had a child in December.   This means I will now be the senior dosimetrist at our cancer center.  People are giving me a hard time about how fast I'm "moving up in the ranks" around there.

So, now we're looking for a replacement...and at least someone to cover until we find a permanent replacement.  I've never been on this side of the job interview process before.  So, if anyone was any tips or advice on interviews on this side, let me know.  I'm all ears.

Oy it's going to be a long summer...

Randoms

Most people associate baseball games with Father's Day but since Mom will be in town visiting we'll be spending Mother's Day at AT&T Park.  First Giants game, awwww yeah!

I'm thinking this is a sign that I need to stop using drive-thrus as a lunch option so much.
Yesterday, I made some cookies for an Easter potluck we had at work today.  (Yes, I realize Easter was last Sunday...but this is California, I've stopped asking questions.)  And look, I had so much help in the kitchen!
He didn't get in the way at all.  Nope.  I didn't trip over him once.

I gave in and bought one of those DNA tests for Kenai.  I know some people say they're a waste of money and inaccurate but I don't care, I figure it's worth a shot.  I'm going to guess he's part boxer, part Chihuahua (his pathetic bark), and part overall general pain in the ass.

My lose weight goal has not been going well.  Due entirely to my own laziness.  Anyway, I've been trying to go running with Kenai.  And by "run" I mean moving at pace faster than walking around the block where I live.  Yeah, I'm hardcore. I now know what it's like to have a teenager.  Kenai gives me the most disgusted look when we're out.  It's like he can't believe he as to be seen in public with me.  Kids.

Quote of the week:  while I work a doctor and I were talking about using a technique on how to do some stuff.
Me: I don't like using that because I really have to think.    Doctor:  I guess that's just an occupational hazard.
                        Walked right into that one.

My "man crush"

"During my First Year, I had a crush on a brainy, raven-haired boy from my dorm.  This played out like the typical sexy coed letter to Penthouse. He would ask me at least once a day if I had ever seen the movie Full Metal Jacket. I would remind him that I had not.  He would describe parts of it to me. After several weeks of mistaking this for flirtation, I tried to kiss him one night by the Monroe Hill dorms and he literally ran away. Not figuratively. Literally."

This is just one of numerous quotes that have made me literally LOL.  I did not know it possible but my love for my idol Tina Fey has deepened.  (For those that may not know - you know how guys can have "man crushes"? Well, I have whatever the female version of that is with Tina Fey. I heart her times infinity) I started reading her book.  I'm only about 1/4 through it but it has not disappointed.  So, if you like Tina Fey and you're looking for an entertaining, easy, quick read definitely check this book by my hero.

"Weed-B-Gon"

In my attempt to be more of a responsible adult, I decided I needed to buy some plants for my place.  I'm not good with plants so I decided I should stick with some low maintenance stuff.  Just some bamboo for inside and some pre-potted flowers for my back deck to add some color out there.  I told myself, "I'm going to keep these flowers alive...this time will be different dammit!"  But SOMEBODY...I'm not going to name names...seems to think that this is his own personal salad bar.

The story you are about to see is true. Only the names have been changed to protect the innocent.
Now, as I stated earlier, I've taken an active role in many a plants homicides...usually neglecting to water them sufficiently, but I actually tried this time.  This is why I'm taking it all so hard.  All my efforts were in vain...
I'm not sure if this photo really does the crime justice, but about 2/3 of the plants have been...decapitated.  It's not a pretty sight.  (Look at his ear in the corner...he can't even leave them alone long enough for me to get a picture.  They always say on those crime shows that the killer likes to return to the scene of the crime to admire their handy work.  Apparently it's true.)
I dream of a day when plants can live in the world...in my apartment...where they no longer have to worry about being the victims of such heinous crimes as the ones we've seen today.

Oh and if Brenda or Blase are reading this -- worry not, the Aerogarden is in a safe place were he can't get to it.  And, for some reason, he's scared to death of it.

Land's End

Yes, it's been quite a while since I've updated this thing.  I haven't really had much to update...nothing blog worthy anyway.

Work is fine, but some people's negativity are starting to wear on me.  It never ceases to amaze me how some people can find something to whine about when they have it pretty damn good!  And I'm not talking venting. We all need to vent. Yeah, we all have bad days or weeks - but instead of just getting it off your chest and moving on, some people continue to bitch and whine about any tiny thing. Yes, I realize I'm whining about people whining...it's just having to deal it everyday is starting to really wear on me...but what can I do? C'est la vie.

Kenai is still his crazy, annoying, obnoxious, but yet oh so lovable self.  He is chasing his tail as I type this.  He's been going back to daycare for a few weeks now which makes both of us happy.
"What chu lookin at freak?"  I would like to point out the cable remote he's laying on top of...he always lays on top of it.  Anywhere on the futon, on the floor, doesn't matter - whenever I can't find the remote the first place I check is under him and 80% of the time I need to look no further.

I've been watching more of the news again (for some reason whenever I'm in school the news is too much for my brain, when I watch TV I want it to be as noneducational as possible).  Japan and Libya.  Crazy things going on in the world.  And let me just say, I've always admired the Japanese culture, it was totally on my list of places I wanted to go before I die, but they now officially fall into the bad ass category.  Just dealing one of the things they're dealing with would be more than most countries could handle but they're dealing with three disasters and they're calm, cool, collected and just taking it!

There's a volunteer group here called Active 20-30.  You have to be between the ages of 20 and 39 and they do all kinds of projects but their main goal is to help underprivileged kids.  I'm thinking about looking into it.  It's a way to volunteer around here and hopefully meet some people.  Here's to hoping it's not full of douche bags.  Wish me luck.  :o)

On Friday afternoon (I took this week off work) Kenai and I headed into the city to check out one of their parks.  This one was called Land's End.  It came highly recommend by that book I have on things to do with your dog in California, and I see why it was.  Even though Kenai almost took out two runners (he just wanted to join them..there were quite a few runners and he didn't care about them but for some reason he felt like he was missing out with that pair...luckily they didn't get mad), it was a really nice walk.  It's close, has some amazing views of the coast and Golden Gate bridge, and was a really nice day out!  California seems to have finally remembered what state it is and knocked this rainy stuff off.  (I heard on the radio not too long ago that we've gotten more rain than Seattle this winter.  Not cool.)  The past few days it's been sunny and in the 70s and the forecast shows it's suppose to continue.  Woot!

About time California.  Sheesh.  I thought Alaska was going to warm up before it would here.  :oP

READY TO GO! C'MON!

A few months ago someone at Kenai's daycare suggested that since the hair on his nose is so thin I should probably think about putting sunscreen on him when it gets sunnier.  This was something that never even crossed my mind but taking a closer look I figured she was right...

And even though I feel like a total jackass I decided I should take her advice...yep I'm that guy now.  I was literally laughing at myself as I put it on him.  So after I slab on my SPF 15, Kenai gets his SPF 100....I figured Kenai didn't want to work on his tan so I got him the strong stuff.  I didn't even know they made SPF that high!

One of the many views from the coastal trail

Not what the scenery you think of when you think of San Francisco, right??

Cliff House & Sutro Baths

Turn a corner and, bam, this is what you see.

More of the Golden Gate Bridge

Even though I really should be working on "heel" with Kenai I decided it would be nice to bring the long leash for this walk.  He LOVED it!

Parts of it I felt more like I was back in AK rather than San Francisco!

Coastal Trail

Coastal Trail

Water break (it was after this picture he tried to join the runners)

"PAINTED ROCK: People have fallen to their death from this point    KEEP OUT"   I saw half a dozen people straight up ignore this sign so I figured I'd check it out.

Couldn't resist taking my picture with the bridge

Ah, so this is what the sign was talking about.

Some pretty little flowers along the way

The waves were so massive below this part of the trail they sounded more like thunder than the ocean

Supposedly when it's low tide you can see remains of some of the shipwrecks...I really wanted to see them...but I couldn't see anything. Boo.

Part of the USS San Francisco Memorial

Part of the USS San Francisco Memorial - "a WWII cruiser that sustained 45 hits and 25 fires during the Battle of Guadalcanal in 1942"

This trail gets Kenai's official seal of approval
